1852/1<$10> Humbert Ten Dollar AU58 NGC. K-8, High R.5. Still-lustrous with attractive reddish highlights. The central striking details on the obverse are diagnostically weak on the shield, arrows, and eagle's claws. A tiny dig is located below the right side of the scroll in the obverse field. In addition to the overdate feature, this distinctive variety is more readily recognized by a prominent die crack that runs diagonally from 12 o'clock to 5 o'clock across the reverse. These coins were struck during a four-day period between February 11 and 14 of 1852. Apparently the majority of the Humbert Tens produced were promptly placed into circulation and a handful of Mint State pieces survived. Census: 7 in 58, 5 finer (11/05).
