1851-O H10C MS65 PCGS. Even though there was wides
1851-O H10C MS65 PCGS. Even though there was widespread melting of pre-1853 silver coins (as they were worth more melted than their face value), with 860,000 pieces struck the 1851-O half dime is one of the more available issues from this era through MS64 condition. However, in Gem grade this is a very challenging coin. Only 16 other pieces have been so graded by NGC and PCGS combined, with eight finer (1/05). The surfaces are lightly toned in ice-blue and violet and show uncommonly bright and attractive satiny mint luster with a semi-reflective appearance in the fields. As with most New Orleans coins from this time period, the striking details are less than complete over some of the highpoints. Population: 2 in 65, 1 finer (1/05). Lot:6128
