1851-O $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Breen-6214. The date has been repunched, with the bases of the initial date visible southwest. An early die state of the variety that also shows a portion of the serif of the repunched second 1 in the date. The eagle is softly struck, as are a couple of stars. Wispy obverse hairlines and minor wear preclude a Mint State designation. Purchased in the 1930's at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive. Collector's envelope with notations "1851-o 2.50 ex. f." included with lot.
From The Stecher Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
