<B>1851-O $10 AU55 PCGS.</B></I> The 1851-O eagle is popular with New Orleans gold type collectors, and though Winter (2006) notes a substantial population of remaining 1851-O eagles (anywhere from 650 to 850-plus survivors), most of the available examples are in VF or XF, and pleasing AU or better pieces remain elusive. This example has lightly abraded, pale orange-gold surfaces that are mildly prooflike despite areas of wear and cloudiness. Solidly struck in the centers, though the peripheral elements lack definition; the stars as always, though the eagle's wingtips are weak as well.
