1851 Navy .36 caliber percussion, early small guard, finely deluxe Gustav Young engraved, British proofed, traces of blue and case hardened finish, ivory grips, serial #31664. Contained within its original to the period blue velveteen lined English partition style case with accessories. The pistol shows very fine and deluxe Gustav Young engraving attributed to the hand of the master himself with intricately cut scrolls, ‘devil dog’ at the left barrel lug, colt’s patent hand cut at center of frame, dog head beneath hammer screw, typical deluxe scroll with florals, cobwebs, wolf on hammer, and young motifs with extra deluxe engraving at barrel which extends 1-3/4” back from the muzzle. The pistol is very deluxe. The Colt shows a deep patina finish with strong traces of blue and case hardening mixed in. Some scattered light erosion and pinrprick pitting, mostly on the forward left side of the barrel and on cylinder. The cylinder shows 30-50% light original cylinder scene, with some areas of pitting and erosion. The backstrap and triggerguard show 40-60% thick original silver plate. The ivory grips are slightly undersized a show a mellow yellow patina, showing some cracking
