1851 N-43 R6- MS63.
1851 N-43 R6- MS63. Lustrous light steel brown with delicate hints of bluish steel overtone in the fields and protected areas. The dies were freshly lapped leaving hard, slightly reflective fields on both sides. Microscopic die polishing lines are visible in the obverse fields. The obverse die was heavily lapped in this process leaving the date and stars smaller and thinner than normal, and the "look" of that side is quite different than what you find on the earlier state. No spots, stains, or contact marks. The fields do show some extremely tiny and barely visible lint marks from fine debris stuck on the dies, especially in the field before the face and neck. Extremely rare LDS, die state b. The dies have been heavily lapped leaving the fields on both sides slightly reflective and creating a subtle halo around the portrait. The die lines from the dentils under stars 1 & 13 are gone and the points down from the neck are shorter but still visible. Finest of only 2 known in the distinctively different late die state. Plated in the 2001 edition of the Grellman book to illustrate the late die state. Noyes photo #30135. DWH #2185.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
