<B>1851-D $5 AU58 NGC.</B></I> Variety 26-R. The '51-D has a mintage of 62,710 pieces, and it is an uncommonly difficult coin in high grades with the majority of known specimens in the Fine to Very Fine grade range. Several other AU58 coins have been certified, but precious few are known above this grade. There is some central striking softness on each side, as usually seen, and some of the denticles are incompletely formed. The surfaces have a dull green-gold color, with red-orange splashes noted near the obverse devices. Unusually bright for a lightly circulated coin, there are a few scattered abrasions on each side.
