1851-C $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Winter-13-G. Last offered in a similarly graded PCGS holder in our 2000 FUN Sale with the description: "....One of the better struck examples of this moderately scarce issue with slight softness apparent on the hair curls around the face of Liberty and some weakness on the eagle's left (facing) leg. The green-gold surfaces have subdued mint luster that has taken on a slight reddish tint. This coin, like others of this issue, shows a series of parallel scratches running diagonally across the face of Liberty. These are obviously of mint origin, and they resemble adjustment marks, but their exact origin is unknown. Aside from these, we also note a vertical scratch next to star 2, and a small tick to the left of the eagle's beak." We would add that the 1851-C is tied for 8th in Charlotte Quarter Eagle high grade rarity ranking and is a significant offering in Mint State. Population: 4 in 61, 2 finer (10/02). Ex: 2000 FUN Sale (HNAI, 1/00), lot 7617, where it realized $9,487.50. From the Ashland City Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
