1851 50C MS65 PCGS. WB-101. Normal Date. For the collector who thinks there are no overlooked issues in U.S. coins, the 1851 half dollar is worthy of consideration. Dick Osburn believes the 1851 is the second rarest issue in the Seated half series, second only to the 1878-S. We offered three pieces as part of Tommy Dorathy's holdings in October 2001, all were either AU or MS. Obviously, a specialist like Tommy Dorathy knew something the rest of us don't if he owned three pieces. This is a bright, highly lustrous Gem that is fully defined in all areas. Originally toned, the obverse retains much brilliance with scattered patches of blue and russet toning around the margins, while the reverse has a more even golden patination. Accompanied by an NGC insert which gives the coin a grade of MS66. Population: 1 in 65, 1 finer (1/05). Lot:7046
