1851 $50 RE Humbert Fifty Dollar, 887 Thous. XF45 PCGS. K-6, R.4. This Kagin variety has the ribbon flush against the reverse rim, which distinguishes it from the similar K-7. 1851 was the first year of coinage at the U.S. Assay Office in San Francisco, but K-6 was struck later than the initial lettered edge varieties. The intricate lathe work of the reverse design reflects assayer Augustus Humbert's prior experience as a watchmaker. A bold example of this classic pioneer gold issue. Peach-gold luster fills the legends, wings, and reverse design. Typically abraded near the date, and the obverse is slightly glossy. Listed on page 353 of the 2008 Guide Book. Population: 15 in 45, 31 finer (12/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
