1851 $50 RE Humbert Fifty Dollar, 880 Thous. XF40 PCGS. K-5, Low R.5. The former facilities of Moffat & Co. were used when newly appointed U.S. Assayer Augustus Humbert began production of $50 slugs in 1851. This issue represents the lesser of two finenesses used to strike the reeded edge, target reverse variety. Offered here is a bright yellow-gold example with typically weak definition at the center of the obverse, but generous luster still adhering to the devices. A few small edge knocks are more-or-less expected for the grade.
