This early pioneer well bucket was filthy and covered in layer after layer of paint. Preservation Project artisans worked carefully to uncover traces of its original red milk paint (still visible) and its telltale structural elements. Revealed: one sturdy vessel held together with horse glue and hand cut nails. Worn bottom runners indicate this workhorse was in daily use for many years; it could probably still be used today. Wood is likely in the fir family, as indicated by the long raised fibers and receding softer cellulose tissue between. In order to preserve this primitive treasure, hand rubbed tung oil has been applied. A bit of lemon oil will keep it looking great.
