1850-O $20 AU58 PCGS. Even the Smithsonian Institution lacks an example as fine as the present specimen, having only an XF40 piece. Gold experts Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth note that the numerous yearly offerings of this issue as mostly well circulated, in the range of Very Fine to Extremely Fine at best. Fully Uncirculated examples are very rare, making this near-Mint State specimen an excellent choice, and likely one of the finest readily obtainable. A search through our permanent auction archives shows that only five times previously have we offered as fine an example. The 1850-O is quite popular, both as the first year of issue and as the first branch mint emission among Liberty Head double eagles. The present specimen offers reflective orange-gold surfaces with the light field chatter characteristic of a short spate in circulation. There are no singularly mentionable abrasions on this strictly original and appealing specimen, save for a couple of small ticks on Liberty's cheek. Population: 5 in 58, 0 finer (11/06).
From The Temecula Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)

Important
