1850-O $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. In high grades, the 1850-O is the fourth rarest Quarter Eagle produced in the New Orleans Mint after the 1845-O, 1842-O, and 1840-O. Despite this fact, and despite a tantalizingly low mintage of 84,000 pieces, the '50-O is an underrated rarity. This is the first near-Mint representative that we have offered since 1999, and it is an uncommonly smooth coin for the grade. Of course, there are a few wispy abrasions here and there, but none are sizeable or individually distracting. The otherwise green-gold color warms to sunset-yellow shades as the coin turns into the light. The otherwise appreciably bold strike wanes over the reverse eagle--a not uncommon feature for a survivor of this poorly produced date. A coin that belongs in an advanced collection of Southern gold. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
