1850-O 10C MS66 PCGS. Despite the mintage of 510,000 p
1850-O 10C MS66 PCGS. Despite the mintage of 510,000 pieces coined at the New Orleans Mint, the vast majority of these were melted during period as the price of silver dramatically increased above face value during the California Gold Rush years. This is a magnificently toned coin that is one of the top examples of this date known. The obverse is toned with resplendent, deep aqua-blue color at the periphery with seductive purple-red over Liberty, while the reverse is more greenish-blue with splashes of lighter gold. As to the strike, it is sharp and full on all the usual suspect devices, much to the delight of specialists. We note a very faint die file line from the rim through the lowest point of the second star to Liberty's hand, plus die file marks above RIC on the reverse. Minor clashmarks reside on the lower third of the reverse as well. A simply stunning coin that will delight any serious collector who demands quality and color. Population: 1 in 66, 1 finer (1/06).
