1850-O $10 MS60 NGC.
1850-O $10 MS60 NGC. The finest known 1850-O ten dollar is the Eliasberg coin, which currently resides in a PCGS MS65 holder. Beyond the Eliasberg specimen, high grade examples are rare in the every sense of the word and opportunities to acquire a true Mint State example of this date are far and few between. To illustrate this point, consider that as of (6/07), NGC has certified only three 1850-O eagles in MS60; there are none finer. Furthermore, PCGS has not graded a single Mint State example, other than the aforementioned MS65. Even the small hoard of 16 pieces salvaged from the S.S. Republic shipwreck failed to yield a single Uncirculated example, although a few AU58 coins were found. Thus, the 1850-O ten is a true condition rarity. The population summary provided by Garrett and Guth in their Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins indicates an average grade of only 47.8 for the 225 coins graded by NGC and PCGS combined (2006). As such, the current coin provides a seldom-seen chance to obtain an 1850-O eagle that is almost certainly a Condition Census piece.
The green-gold surfaces retain significant portions of mint luster and there is a noticeable overlay of reddish patina on each side. A bit softly stuck, as one would expect from a New Orleans product. A few small to medium-sized field marks are located on each side, the most obvious being on the obverse.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
