1850-C<$2 1/2> MS61 PCGS. Variety 12-H. Richly colored green-gold surfaces have taken on much reddish patina, the effect of which is quite appealing. While a modest amount of weakness is noted over the central devices, the strike is at least as well defined as the typical survivor. Mildly reflective luster in the fields is interrupted by the presence of numerous light field marks. Only a short vertical scratch on Liberty's neck is worthy of individual mention. The scarcer of two die pairings reported, this variety is most easily distinguished by the feathers that extend through the top of the mintmark. Only a dozen or so Uncirculated pieces are believed extant from a tiny production of 9,148 coins. Population: 2 in 61, 1 finer (11/05).
From The Watson Collection.
