1850 $5 MS61 PCGS. "Perhaps if wealthy collectors from the Philadelphia area were to pursue collecting the Philadelphia Mint issues, prices would finally reflect the true rarity of these scarce coins." So say gold pundits Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth in relation to this issue, to which they append that it is "very rare in Mint State ... ." This lovely and historic piece, from the antebellum mintage of 64,491 pieces, suggests at first glance the eye appeal of a finer grade, with brilliant luster radiating from the charming canary-yellow surfaces. Only under a loupe does one note the numerous small scrapes and two reeding marks on Liberty's chin. A well struck and pleasing example. Population: 2 in 61, 4 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
