1850 25C MS65 NGC. Extra 1 in Dentils. MPD-001. Briggs 1-A. Breen-3979. The 1 was mispunched below and left of the date with the base clearly showing on the rim of the coin and part of the upright. This is one of the more dramatic mispunchings from the period, and this could is probably one of if not the finest known of the variety. The surfaces are stark white with heavily striated fields that impart a bright, semi-reflective sheen on each side. The strike is sharp on the peripheral stars, but there is localized weakness on Liberty's lower curls and breast. As a date, the 1850 Seated quarter is elusive as most of the original mintage was melted during the increase in silver prices caused by the California Gold Rush. Identifiable by a tiny nick on Liberty's left (facing) forearm, and we note a raised die lump on the chest near the neck. This is one of the finest examples certified by the two primary grading services. Census: 2 in 65, 2 finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
