1850 $20 MS63 PCGS.
1850 $20 MS63 PCGS. The first collectible Double Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint and a tremendously popular issue as such, the 1850 was produced in respectable numbers (1.1 million pieces) for the era. Although not particularly rare in an overall sense, most surviving examples are confined to the XF and AU grade ranges. Mint State representatives, even average pieces, are few and far between, as evidenced by a combined NGC and PCGS population figure of less than 80 pieces. The North Shore Collection specimen is typically satiny with pinpoint striking details over the entire coin. Both sides are a rich yellow-gold with a subtle overlay of reddish patina in the peripheral areas of the reverse. There are a few pinpoint marks between Liberty's neck and the first two stars along with a similar cluster on the lower right portion of the reverse. A series of peripheral die cracks nearly encircles the reverse. Population: 4 in 63, 1 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
