1849 N-22 R1
<Our item number 136130>1849 N-22 R1. MS-67. Original mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints. At least 80% of the surface displays the mellowed mint color. The obverse fields are slightly reflective due to a fresh die polishing and the devices are satiny creating a beautiful cameo appearance, especially on the obverse where the die polishing is more pronounced. The only defects, if you can call them that, are a faint nick-like depression in the planchet on the front edge of the neck and a tiny planchet fissure on the rim over the I in AMERICA, as struck. M-LDS, die state c (Newcomb's old #6). Tied for finest known of the variety with one other example that has slightly less mint color, and both of these are the finest known of the date, regardless of the die variety. A truly superb 1849 cent worthy of the finest collection.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 15,000.
Ex Larry Whitlow 1/90 (via Bob Grellman)-R. E.
