1849 G$1 No L MS65 PCGS. Only 1,000 gold dollars were reportedly struck on May 8, 1849 before production was halted. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth (2006) write that Mint Director Robert Patterson thought that the relief was too high, and presumed that this would lead to striking problems. On this beautiful Gem, vibrant luster enlivens the apricot-gold surfaces that are imbued with wisps of light green, and a powerful strike emboldens the design elements. Some scattered handling marks prevent an even higher grade. Population: 27 in 65, 8 finer (2/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
