1849-D G$1 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1-B. This first-year issue was apparently saved in considerable numbers, making it generally available in the lower Mint State grades. The Reverse B of 1849, known without die cracks and with extensive cracks, as here, was produced to solve the blurry reverse problem created by the Reverse A die. A die crack runs through the mintmark, connecting both bow ribbons and into the right field. Another crosses from the rim at 8 o'clock through the N in UNITED and an olive berry, onward to the center and from the left wreath tip through ATES and to the rim. Brilliant luster radiates from the yellow-gold surfaces. A small planchet flake shows on the reverse below the date, along with light, grade-consistent abrasions and field scuffs.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
