<B>1849-D $2 1/2 MS62 NGC.</B></I> Variety 11-M, confirmed by the high 1 in the date. The 1849-D (10,945 coins produced) is extremely rare in Mint State grades. To date, the two major grading services report 17 coins in Uncirculated condition, but when one allows for resubmissions, we still cannot overstate the high grade rarity of this issue. The present example displays overall sharp definition. In fact, there are really no ill-defined features, and the yellow-gold surfaces show appreciable brightness in the fields. Scattered abrasions are consistent with the MS62 grade level, and the only noteworthy pedigree marker is a pinscratch in the lower right reverse field at the tip of the olive branch.
