<B>1849-D $2 1/2 AU58 NGC.</B></I> Variety 11-M. High date with the 1 distant from the border. Despite an impressively low mintage of 10,945 pieces the 1849-D is a median rarity among Dahlonega quarter eagles and survivors are more likely to be found in AU or finer grade than most other D-mint issues. This bright yellow-gold example boldly approaches Mint State status, being very well struck over the major design elements and showing only intermittent bluntness at the borders. Two small dimpled areas on the portrait appear to be as struck.
