1849 Colt pocket model revolver, .31 caliber percussion, 4” barrel, finely Gustav Young style deluxe engraved, burl wood grips, cased with accessories, serial #60474. The Colt shows Samuel Colt in script on barrel, Colt’s Patent in banner at left side of frame which is hand-cut, fine and profuse scroll and floral engraving of the type attributed to the hand of Gustav Young. Also shows borders and cobwebs typical to Young’s work. Therevolver shows a grey to brown patina finish with traces of case hardening and blue mixed in. Scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion, normal aging. Original cylinder seen remains, approx. 10-20%. The varnish woodgrips fit impeccably, showing a light application of oil or varnish but no sanding. The markings are good, all matching visible serial numbers. The backstrap and triggerguard show traces of darkened silver.The frame and loading lever are quite crisp and show some considerable case colors. A far above average engraved 49.
