<B>1849-C G$1 Closed Wreath MS63 NGC.</B></I> Variety 2-B, the only Closed Wreath variety and the only collectible variety for the issue, as the Open Wreath variant is all but unobtainable. This example offers strong detail on the portrait and wreath, devices that often show weakness on other pieces. The yellow-gold obverse displays a degree of reflectivity, while the reverse exhibits more frosty luster; this pattern is typical for this issue. While wispy obverse abrasions preclude a finer grade, the overall visual appeal is impressive. Winter (1997) wrote of this issue: "Some very pleasing pieces exist and these are in great demand among collectors due to their status as first-year-of-issue coins."
