1849 $10 Moffat & Co. Ten Dollar, "Ten Dol." VF25 PCGS. K-6a, High R.5. The first coins issued by the private firm of Moffat & Company were 1849-dated Ten Dollar gold pieces. At the time of their delivery, Moffat & Company was the only private minter located in San Francisco besides Norris, Gregg, & Norris, and this denomination does not usually appear much finer than this. This is an unusually attractive coin for the grade with even overall wear and plenty of bold definition remaining in the more protected areas of the design. The number of abrasions is not excessive, and the color is a rich, original, honey-gold shade. A perfect candidate for inclusion in a circulated Territorial gold type set that requires a representation of Moffat & Company coinage. Listed on page 288 of the current Guide Book. From The Estate of Jack L. Klausen. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
