1848 Van Buren & Adams Free Soil Currier Key 1848 Van Buren & Adams Free Soil Banner Currier.
<B>Key 1848 Van Buren & Adams "Free Soil Banner" Currier.</B></I> One of the toughest of the 1844-1876 series, this variety shows Van Buren with noted Boston intellect Charles Frances Adams running on a third party "Free Soil" ticket. A wide swath of the voting public did not yet share their anti-slavery fervor, so the ticket fared poorly at the ballot box. Not surprisingly, there was apparently little contemporary demand for their Currier print as well, as surely at least 100 examples of the Taylor & Fillmore and Cass & Butler versions are known for every one of the Van Buren & Adams variety! Save for a minor stain in the top border, this is a very fine specimen, with strong color and only a little of the typical age browning. Only the second example we have ever handled of this rare print. 10" x 14".
