The United States presidential election of 1848 was the 16th quadrennial Presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 7, 1848. In the aftermath of the Mexican–American War, General Zachary Taylor of the Whig Party defeated Senator Lewis Cass of the Democratic Party. This is an original 1848 Zachary Taylor Presidential Campaign item that measures 1.75” x 2.75” x .5”. The decorative Hand-Colored Box has the appearance of a book, with gilt pages, when viewed from the side. Inside a mirror is mounted to the top lid. The outer back side displays a heart and reads, “Forget me Not” in blue. The gold paper edging has worn so that the lid is detached and the corners are slightly worn. Overall, a boldly Printed and colored highly decorative Presidential Campaign Box that is excellent for display.
