1848-O H10C MS66 PCGS. A difficult coin to find in any grade, in Mint State, the '48-O Large O is rated as R.4 by noted Half Dime authority Al Blythe. This is a spectacular coin and appears of the quality level as if it were from the Philadelphia mint. The fact that it is a product of the New Orleans facility makes it even more important. The obverse shows none of the usually seen softness of detail common to O-mint Half Dimes of this year. The reverse only displays slight softness on the upper leaves in the wreath. The lettering at the top of the reverse appears to show evidence that this coin was struck from slightly rusted dies, no doubt a result of the humid Delta climate. The luster is thick and heavily frosted, and each side exhibits a brilliant, untoned appearance. Population: 3 in 66, 4 finer (12/04).
