1848-O $10 AU55 PCGS. Some patience and a decent amount of time spent at national coin shows will often turn up a few 1848-O Liberty Eagles in VF and XF. Above those levels, this issue is a significant condition rarity with just seven or eight AU coins believed extant from an original mintage of 35,850 pieces (per Winter, 1992). This partially lustrous survivor combines green-gold undertones with warmer orange-gold highlights. As is characteristic of this issue (which is among the most poorly produced O-mint Eagles from the 1840s) the strike is uneven with striking incompleteness most readily evident on the obverse stars. There is not an excessive number of abrasions for a circulated Southern gold coin of this size, but accuracy compels us to mention a moderate distraction in the reverse field above the tip of the eagle's right (facing) wing. A coin that will, nevertheless, form an integral part of an advanced Liberty Eagle collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
