1848-D $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Winter 10-L. The typically offered survivor of this low mintage (13,771 pieces) Dahlonega Mint Quarter Eagle grades no finer than XF. Even so, the '48-D is generally regarded as one of the more readily obtainable D-mint Two-and-a-Halves in low as well as high grades. One should not, however, overlook the rarity of the present near-Mint survivor as it is one of no more than 37 coins believed extant in AU (per Winter, 1997). Rich reddish-gold color envelops both sides of this well struck and minimally worn representative. Green-gold undertones are noted at indirect angles, but we can find neither ill-defined features nor singularly mentionable abrasions. One of the nicest representatives of gold coin production at the Dahlonega Mint that this cataloger has seen. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
