<B>1848-C $5 AU55 NGC.</B></I> Variety 11-E. The mintage of this issue was 64,472 coins, a rather large production for the Charlotte Mint. Among survivors of this coinage, only one die variety has been identified, although logic suggests that more than one die pair must have been used. High grade examples of this date are scarce, despite the mintage. This piece, struck in bright greenish-gold, has nearly full luster and sharp design features, although the surfaces are extensively abraded.
