<B>1848-C $5 AU50 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 11-E. Although a comparatively high mintage Charlotte issue, the 1848-C half eagle saw widespread circulation and survivors are far more challenging in AU or higher grades. The present example offers moderately abraded surfaces and a typical strike, but those distractions are accompanied by ample prooflike luster in the fields.
