1848-C<$2 1/2> MS61 PCGS. Variety 9-F. While a collectible coin in lower grades, the '48-C is difficult to locate above the XF level. Even if one were to encounter a Mint State representative, the eye appeal would most likely be limited due to poor striking characteristics. In stark contrast, this is an appealing coin for the MS61 grade. The strike is even, and exceptionally bold for the issue. Unlike the present piece, other Mint State examples seen show little detail on Liberty's hair or the eagle's head. The number of abrasions are anything but excessive for the grade, but the green-gold surfaces are somewhat subdued.
