1848<1C> N-25, R.4. MS64 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. Grellman state c. The M in AMERICA is affixed to the leaf below due to die crumbling. Certainly a Condition Census example, and clearly finer than any of the examples in the Brown sale. This is a late die state with extensive reverse die crumbling. Sharply struck with excellent medium olive-brown color, and hints of faded mint red on the obverse. A few areas of maroon color on the reverse, representing evidence of slight corrosion. Two similar examples of this variety in the Reiver Collection present a challenge to determine which coin is the later die state. In our opinion, this example is ever so slightly the later die state.
Ex: Bill Carmel; Stack's (2/1974), lot 1085; Del Bland (5/25/1976). Envelope Included.
