1847<S$1> PR64 NGC. Ex: Pittman/Richmond. Luxuriously toned in peach, electric-blue, gold, and mauve colors. The reverse is slightly lighter in color than the obverse. This lovely near-Gem has smooth fields and only one mark worthy of noting for pedigree purposes, a tick on Liberty's raised arm. The strike is exacting, since only the lower right edge of Liberty's rock shows any incompleteness of detail. A light roller mark of mint origin passes through the eagle's neck, and a vertical thin toning streak is west of the beak, by no means a scratch since it is not interrupted by the right base of the A in STATES. The reverse die has the defects on the right central portion of the final A in AMERICA, associated with most if not all proof Seated Dollars of the 1840 to 1850 era. The 1847 is a substantial rarity in proof format. As of (9/05), NGC and PCGS have certified a combined 21 pieces, only three of which have received higher grades.
Ex: Frederic Geiss Sale (B.
