1847-O $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. The lack of Quarter Eagle deliveries at the New Orleans Mint in 1848 and 1849 undoubtedly help to explain the high grade rarity of the 1847-O. Most of the 124,000 pieces delivered in the 1847 probably entered circulation, where they were either extensively worn or lost. Not so the present example. There is no wear to report, although we do note some characteristic (for the issue) striking incompleteness over the obverse stars, the center of Liberty's portrait, and many of the eagle's feathers. Medium gold color adorns slightly granular surfaces, the latter also being a common feature for most high grade survivors of this conditionally rare delivery. Moderately abraded, yet free of singularly mentionable distractions. Population: 2 in 61, 6 finer (10/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
