1847 N-24 R1 MS60+.
1847 N-24 R1 MS60+. Frosty bluish steel with at least a third of the bright original mint red remaining, mostly on the obverse. Would rate a higher grade but there are shallow low spots covering much of the neck, right obverse field, and the field around ONE CENT, all as struck caused by debris on the dies. Otherwise this cent is choice, virtually free of marks. M-LDS, die state c (Newcomb's old #25). The crack at ME to the dentils over the adjacent letters is clear, the clashmark at the chin is weak but still visible, and traces of the die lines from the inner curl remain visible, although they are weaker than those on the preceding example, perhaps due to the die clogging. This example appears to be slightly later than the preceding one, but the die crack at ICA that differentiates Newcomb's #25 from his #9 has not formed. DWH #2071.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
