Date: 1847Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown on the obverse with more than half the planchet showing mint color (a 35/80% split). A choice cent, nearly flawless except for some microscopic specks of darker steel toning on both sides. Couple of these specks contain a trace of carbon but you need a strong glass to fine them. A tiny spot of darker bluish steel toning on the upper part of the first S in STATES can help identify this cent. M-LDS, die state c late, with fine die cracks on the reverse. Only weak traces of the early die lines left of star 1 remain visible. There are a few shallow low spots under CENT, as struck (caused by debris/lubricant on the die). Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#2 behind a marginally finer example in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 15% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
