Featured in this lot we have a John Woodhouse Audubon framed "Collies Squirrel" natural sized lithograph originating from 1847. John Woodhouse Audubon is the second son of the famous ornithologist and wild life painter John James Audubon. Following in his fathers footsteps, He painted primarily North American wildlife, but also did some portraits and landscapes. He is best known for his life size renditions of animals, his work in "The Viviparous Quadrupeds of America", and his completion of the second volume of The Birds of America. This piece shows a pair of collie squirrels and are painted in their natural size. The lithograph shows excellent attention to detail and shows almost life like appearance to the piece. The bottom of the piece is marked "Drawn From Nature By J.W. Audubon- Sciurus Colliaei, Rich Collies Squirrel Natural Size - Lith, Printed & Col by J.T. Bowen, Philad 1847" with the top marked "No. 21 Plate CIV". The piece is set into a golden frame with a grey border around the art and shows art gallery tags in the back. The gallery tags read "John James Audubon Collies Squirrel, Sciurus Colliaei, Rich Bowen Lithograph 1847" and is priced at $6,500. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The piece shows good condition for its age with some discoloration on the paper. The frame measures 34" wide by 41 1/2" tall with the art measuring 19 1/4" wide by 25 1/4" tall.
