1847-C $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Variety 8-F, the only known dies. This is a lovely example with pleasing lime-gold coloration and a hint of prooflikeness in the fields. The design elements are consistently well struck throughout, and there is only a trace of typical weakness on the eagle's left (facing) leg, as well as on Liberty's hair detail just above the ear and forehead. Light doubling, unmentioned in Winter, occurs on the Y in LIBERTY. There is a faint orange toning streak in the left obverse field. This is the most common Charlotte quarter eagle issue, but Select Mint State survivors are scarce, as are near-Gems; and there are none currently certified above MS64 at either service. Population: 6 in 63, 6 finer (7/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
