1847<1C> Hawaii Cent MS63 Red and Brown NGC. Crosslet 4, 15 Berries. The first of the five official coins issued by the Kingdom of Hawaii and the only one to bear the portrait of King Kamehameha III, the 1847 Hawaiian cent was produced to the extent of only 100,000 pieces. There were, however, a number of privately issued tokens that circulated freely on the islands, owing to the scarcity of small change. This 1847 cent offers much original mint red still in evidence on both sides, complementing the lustrous light brown surfaces seen elsewhere. This well-struck piece is encapsulated in an old-style NGC holder. Population: 56 in 63 Red and Brown, 18 finer (9/06).
