1846-O $5 AU50 ICG. Although often compared to the 1845-O (41,000 pieces produced) in terms of overall rarity, the 1846-O is a rarer coin, this despite a higher mintage of 58,000 pieces. This is a well produced issue by New Orleans Mint standards, and the present coin is no exception. All features save for the obverse hair curls are boldly detailed, and there are no areas of excessive or bothersome wear. The surfaces are moderately bright with warm orange-gold overtones and scattered distractions that include a moderate reeding mark in the right obverse field. One of perhaps 75-80 coins believed extant (per Winter, 1992), and a coin that is sure to inspire spirited bidding among collectors who specialize in gold coinage of the New Orleans Mint. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
