<B>1846 50C Medium Date MS64 NGC.</B></I> WB-102, Medium Date, Errant 6. This variety was once regarded as an 1846/5 overdate: the Wiley-Bugert reference (1993) considers it to be a crudely repunched date. The authors note that: "The head die is paired with two tail dies, the second of which is easily identified by a large hole near the top of the first set of vertical stripes in the shield." This near-Gem example displays that characteristic, and its bright lustrous surfaces exhibit just a hint of incipient light tan color. All of the design features are well brought up. A few minor handling marks limit the grade.
