1846/5-O $10 AU50 PCGS. First Overdate. The more common of the two known die marriages of the 1846/5-O, this variety is attributable by the presence of the ball of the 5 within the loop of the 6 in the date. Examples of this overdate are the second most common Eagles of the 1846-O delivery. This is a richly colored survivor with reddish-gold overtones and more deeply set green-gold shadings. Remnants of a prooflike finish are still in evidence, particularly in the more protected areas around the devices. There are a few as struck depressions in the obverse field, the largest of which is located behind the curls that overlay the back of Liberty's neck. Most extant '46-O Eagles are extensively abraded, and this coin is no exception. There are, however, no individually distracting handling marks. An original, high grade circulated survivor of this, the only verifiable overdate on a New Orleans Mint gold coin. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
