<B>1846 $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS.</B></I> This is an extraordinarily rare date in Mint State grades, from a mintage of just 21,598 coins. From the limited certified populations, which include resubmissions, it is reasonable to estimate that no more than 10 Mint State examples of this date actually survive. This example is highly lustrous, yellow-gold with hints of green. A few tiny copper splashes are evident on each side. The design details are fully defined and the surfaces have satiny texture with reflective fields. This is possibly the Breen-6181 variety that he called an "overdate," although it is hard to attribute this as anything more than a recut date.
