<B>1846 $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> The 1846 is an overlooked date among early Coronet quarter eagles. Only 21,598 pieces were struck and few examples were set aside in high grades. Uncirculated pieces are rare indeed, and this pleasing AU58 is about as fine as most collectors will encounter. The surfaces are a bit lackluster, but there are no obvious or detracting abrasions on either side. Sharply defined except, of course, on the eagle's left (facing) leg.
