1846 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Well-struck (save typical softness on the eagle's facing leg), with even and pleasant peach-gold color. The 1846 is an overlooked date among early Coronet quarter eagles, with only 21,598 pieces struck and few examples set aside in high grades. There is as much luster seen on this example as on those in Mint State. Only some very light friction keeps this coin from a higher grade. Population: 2 in 58, 8 finer (11/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
